From the Desk of the Editor in Chief: Submissions Call -- Solstice Publishing

https://solsticepublishingbooks.blogspot.com/2020/07/from-desk-of-editor-in-chief-submissions.html

From the Desk of the Editor in Chief: Submissions -- Solstice Publishing

Good morning. Welcome to my desk and all the activity upon it. Today, we’re going to talk about submissions. I’ve had so many people ask what it takes to submit to Solstice Publishing, I think it’s time to explain the process.

You just finished your book. Beta readers are telling you it’s the best book they’ve ever read. You go over your work one more time, before deciding to start the submission process. Next, you begin the research, to find the best publisher possible for your ‘baby.’

Having done this many times myself, I know just how much research you’re now involved with. Are you considering seeking publishers that specialize in the genre you write in? Do you feel you should be with a publisher that accepts multiple genres? Do you need an agent to submit your book? Finally, just what should you include in your query/submission?

The first three questions you, the author, must answer. I have the information you need for the last question.

In order to submit to Solstice Publishing, we ask you to send us your full manuscript—this should be a completed manuscript, your final as we call it. Before submitting, you should do a thorough read of your book, to ensure there isn’t anything you missed. Your book should be in a 8.5x11 document and you should start each new chapter on a new page. The first page should include the title (and sub-title if you have one) and your name (or the pseudonym you’re using). Don’t add page numbers in the header or footer. You may have either double or single spacing. All submissions should be sent to us in .DOC format and be attached in an email. We do not read submissions that have an extension other than .DOC or .DOCX, and we do not accept submissions sent through Google docs. Please don’t insert pictures or any other type of image in your submission.

Once you have attached your file, you should insert a brief letter in the body of the email. Introduce yourself. Give us a very short synopsis of your book. You also need to include your social media sites that you’ve set up for yourself as an author. Solstice Publishing requires our authors to promote their books on social media in the contract. Not including social media information will result in us not reading your submission.

Submissions are read throughout the month and we will advise you during the last week of the month if we are interested in offering a contract or if we don’t feel your book is right for us. The staff of Solstice Publishing are all published authors. We know how it feels to have to wait, to wonder if your book will receive a contract or not. That being said, we do not accept every book that is submitted to us. We recently changed our criteria and are only accepting a few books a month.

I hope to see many new and exciting books coming our way soon!

Encouraging News!

I know I haven't posted on here for awhile, and I apologize for that. I got busy editing two manuscripts, had a brief hiatus from promotions and spent some time launching a little graphic design business called Ambrosia Innovations.

http://www.ambrosiainnovations.com/

Well, I have some good news. I just hit the 'submit' button for Upon Your Love, book three of the Heiresses in Love Series.

That means it's off to the publisher, and the fate of the book rests in their hands. I hope they like it! I'm very excited to show this one to you, and I hope I can come back and give you a release date soon once they approve it! So, wish me luck! :)

In the meantime, here are the previous two books in the series, if you still haven't had a chance to read them. The Heiresses in Love Series is a riveting, Victorian romance/family saga with a maritime angle. Don't miss out!

Stay tuned for more news on the Heiresses in Love Series, and other book projects this year...

What a Year! - 2014 Review

What a Year!

It’s been quite a year, full of various news encompassing new book releases, interviews, giveaways, awards as well as fun promos and excerpts! I can’t tell everything as simply too much happened (for a more detailed account of everything, you can check the back issues of my newsletter), but I can give you a brief overview month by month.

The Year 2014

January

In January, my first historical romance, Upon Your Return, got a week-long spotlight on the Seasons of Love blog.

Here is one guest post and two excerpts from the book to give you an idea of how it went. On January 12th, Fara Bellamont, the female main character got a character interview on Kathleen Janz-Anderson’s blog. I wrote a poem a few days later and it was dedicated to my fiancĂ©. Also in January, I found out that I was a runner-up and finalist in the MARSocial’s Author of the Year Competition. This video shows the books of the finalists. Later in the month, I learned that Upon Your Return was nominated in the Readers’ Choice Awards on the Time for Love Blog. On January 27th, I wrote a nature-themed poem called “Gentle Giant”.

February

On February 2nd, I discovered that I won “Honorable Mention” in the Readers’ Choice Awards for January of 2014.  The following day I wrote a blog post about the difference between the way authors and readers picture characters, and the way the covers end up. In February, I found a surprise interview on Wanton Reads that posted in December of 2013, but I didn’t know about it until later. In February, two excerpts were posted on Eat Sleep Write, one from Leather Lace by my alternate pen name Erica Sutherhome, and one from Upon Your Return. On February 14th, I did a blog post about the “first kiss” in a relationship as well as a book giveaway. Five days later, Fara Bellamont was spotlighted in a character interview on Snow Tigra’s blog. On February 21st, the I Love Romance Blog had its official launch. On February 23rd, I offered some information about, as well as an excerpt from A Touch of Dawn, another book published under my pen name Erica Sutherhome.

 March

A few days later, I did a guest blog post about “secrets” on the Seasons of Love blog. This was part of a week-long spotlight for Leather and Lace, a romantic suspense novel, which also included a few excerpts like this one.

On March 10th, Magick & Moonlight (or the more affectionately name M&M) received its first review here. Two days later, I got some wonderful news! I found out that Upon Your Honor, the sequel to Upon Your Return, was accepted by Solstice Publishing and they offered me a book contract.

On March 13th, Leather and Lace received a spotlight on Exquisite Quills’ Genesis of a Book section, in which I discussed how the book came about and what challenges I faced in writing it. Also in March, Magick & Moonlight got a spotlight on Fiction Hideaway complete with a small excerpt. On March 24th, I was in an author interview on The Writers Shack. Three days later, I participated in “my writing process” blog tour and tagged eight other authors, some of whom I met through my work on the Writing in the Modern Age blog.

On December 29th, I did an end-of-the-year post for Writing in the Modern Age, thanking all of our wonderful guest authors. And just a few days ago, I was informed by WordPress that the top post for the year on the I Love Romance Blog was this one with 267 total views. That’s almost everything that happened this year. You can check the links below for more details I might have missed.
