Spotlight: Alicia Sparks Visits to Talk About PRIMITIVE FIX!

Today, we're doing something a little different. Fellow author Alicia Sparks is stopping by to talk about her book!

Hello, Alicia! It's great that you're visiting MLB.  :)

Hi! Thank you for having me on your blog, Marie.

My pleasure, of course! So, let me ask a few questions since you're here...

All right.

Can you tell us a little about your book? When did it come out and where can we get it?

Primitive Fix has been out for about a year, and it’s available at Amazon.com

Great!

So, what inspired you to write this book? How did you get into writing paranormal romance?

I live in Louisiana, and we are a state that is obsessed with tigers, even though we don’t have any tigers native to our area. It got me to thinking about why the obsession exists. There had to be something, right? According to my research, the term goes back to the Civil War when there was a Southern Infantry known as the “Fighting Tigers.” They weren’t fighting for slavery or national politics. They were trying to keep their homes and their livelihoods. Most were what we could consider to be poor or very low working class today, and many did not have homes but lived in shacks. They were fighting for their land, their soil, their freedom. And they were vicious, protecting each other and what was theirs. This is what got my brain to pumping, thinking about those men and what caused them to be so infused with “tiger’s blood.” The history of those men will be part of the series, but it hasn’t made its way into the books just yet. Let’s just say you’re going to find out how my shapeshifting tigers came to be!

I got into writing paranormal because my first love was The Vampire Lestat. I felt like his books were written for me. Sure, Louis was fine, but a bit whiny. But Lestat. There was something about him that spoke to my soul. I think I’ve outgrown him now, looking for more substance than he can provide. He is the “brat prince,” after all. So that’s how it all started!

Fascinating!

So...what, do you feel, sets your book apart from other books in the genre?

As I said earlier, I used a lot of history to help put the whole plot together. I think that sets it apart. I’m telling the story of a group of shapeshifters, but I’m also telling a story about Louisiana, and about her history. Love it or hate it, and I know people have very strong feelings about it, the Civil War changed our history and changed our state. However, for some people, the changes were minimal because they didn’t have much to start with and had even less after the war. Not everything was plantations and magnolias, and I think the Bayou country of Louisiana really shows that. I am incorporating all that into this series, and I hope the readers will feel a connection to my state because of it.

Wow, that's great!

Give us a teaser or two if you can.

“Feel better?” When the words came out, he didn’t miss the raspy tone of her voice, the way it was thick and needy, filled with the same kind of longing coursing through him.
“No. Just clean.” It only took one more step and he was standing between her legs, pushing her thighs apart to make room for his body.
“Kenyon…”
“Shh. No words. I just want you to feel.”
She sucked in her breath when he reached out and pulled her flush against him, her core connecting with the towel, connecting with what was under the towel, sending a growl through his body that ended up vibrating from his lips. His hands still on her hips, he leaned forward and pressed his forehead to hers, his eyes holding her the entire way. Her tongue darted out across her bottom lip, and it took every bit of strength he had not to nip it with his teeth, show her the alpha beast he had living inside him. But he didn’t. Instead, he let the rumbling in his throat do the talking for him, the purring sound filling the room, surrounding them both.
When he felt her shiver beneath him, he knew he had her, knew she was his. She could talk about freedom and family tradition and wanting to let go all she wanted, but he knew she was his and she would never be able to walk away from what they had.
“Get off me.” Her hands were on his chest, pushing against him, but the movement wasn’t very spirited. She couldn’t have swatted a fly away with that gentle touch...
“Not until you admit that you’ve missed me.” He nuzzled against her ear with his lips, resisting the urge to take the lobe between his teeth and bite her, demand her submission. It was part of their mating ritual, of what they had always done, of how they had always been. She remembered. The way her body was calling out to him, her scent permeating his brain, he knew she remembered and wanted him as badly as he wanted her.
“If I admit it, will you go away?” Her nails grazed against his shoulder, her actions in opposition to everything she was saying. A low moan escaped her throat, followed by a gasp, as if she had stopped herself—or tried to stop herself—from reacting to him.
“You’ll never get rid of me. Even if you live to be a hundred and you disappear into the Colorado wilderness, I will always be part of you.” He nipped her ear this time and was rewarded with another gasp, another moan. “You want me, Sage. You haven’t seen me for three years and your body needs me like it needs to breathe.”

Ooh...sexy! You certainly hooked me! :)

So, I'm sure readers are curious about your next writing project. Can you tell us what you've got cooking up now or is that a secret?

The next book is actually a follow-up to Primitive Fix and Primitive Need. It is called Primitive Craving, and it follows Kenyon and Nik’s sister, Willow. She’s been gone from Louisiana for ten years and is on the run from her clan because she performs as a “tiger girl” in a traveling circus, breaking their golden rule about appearing as tigers to humans. Kenyon calls on Timbre Canis, one of the wolves who is part of the Maddux Clan and serves as a tracker and bounty hunter for them, because you know…the nose… Anyway, Timbre finds Willow and is instantly obsessed with her, even though he knows he has to take her back to her brother and have her stand trial for breaking the law. Fans have been asking about the prodigal son, Nik, and whether he will make a return at all. I just have to say, don’t be disappointed with what you find out about Nik in this book, but you’re going to have to wait a bit longer for more of his story and more of the history of the Louisiana Tigers!

It sounds like a fascinating series! And I have a weakness for the paranormal, as well as history... ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by to tell us about Primitive Fix, Alicia!

My pleasure!

Readers, you'll just have to pick up a copy of this riveting paranormal romance! ;)

Here is the blurb.

Part 1 - Kenyon

Sage Villalobos has been destined to marry Kenyon Maddux since the day she was born. As the second-born in her wolf clan, she came into this world owing a debt to the family of shape-shifting tigers who rule the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya Basin. Kenyon is the only man she’s ever wanted, the man who sets her blood on fire, but she’s tired of being indebted to his family for something she didn’t do. She wants him to choose her because he loves her, not because he owns her. When Kenyon’s brother, Nik, is taken prisoner, Kenyon turns to Sage for help. Using her unique skills, she knows she can help him free his brother, but there will be a price. If she agrees to do this, she wants Kenyon to release her from her debt. However, the only thing Kenyon wants to do is hold on to her and never let her go.

Part 2 - Nik

After months of captivity as part of a roadside attraction, Nik Maddux is finally able to escape. Injured and at death’s door, he makes his way through the swamp only to collapse near Juliette’s home. Juliette pulls the naked man into her cabin and begins nursing him back to health, marveling at the black stripes which cover his body and the feline features of his face. She knows he’s not quite human and realizes she may have found a kindred spirit, someone whose secrets are as deadly as her own. When Nik awakes, his attraction to Juliette is instant. While she heals his body, he wants to heal her soul. But danger is lurking in the swamp, and the longer they stay together, the more likely they are to lose everything.
