Marie Lavender lives in the Midwest with her family and three cats. She has been writing for over twenty years. She has more works in progress than she can count on two hands.

At the tender age of nine, she began writing stories. She majored in Creative Writing in college because that was all she ever wanted - to be a writer. While there, she published two works in a university publication, and was a copy editor on the staff of an online student journal. After graduating from college, she sought out her dream to publish a book.

Since then, Marie has published nineteen books in the genres of historical romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, mystery/thriller, literary fiction and poetry. Lavender just released Magick & Moonlight, a paranormal romance, in March. Upon Your Honor, released in late April, is her second historical romance.

BBB: What inspired you to become an author?

ML:
I can’t say that it was any one thing.  I always loved the written word, and my family often found me stuck in a book.  I also had a pretty wild imagination starting from the time I entertained myself with dolls as a child.  There were whole stories going on with those characters!  It just seemed fairly natural to turn my attention to writing.

BBB: How did you come up with the idea for your book, Upon Your Honor?

ML: Upon Your Honor is the second book in Heiresses in Love series.  Not too long after I received a contract for Upon Your Return, the first book in the series, I started to think about sequels. The scene of Chloe walking on board the ship with the intent of stowing away came to me. But, in the back of my mind, I’ve always been fascinated with the ocean and sailing ships, even though I do get a little seasickness from time to time.  More than that, I’ve always thought it was interesting how women in history have had to impersonate men in order to get things accomplished.  Consider George Eliot.  She had to assume a masculine name just to compete in literary circles. In highly male driven societies, what can you expect?  I don’t mean to get feminist on you at all.  I just think it’s interesting.  Part of this is what led me to dress Chloe in men’s clothes while she snuck aboard La Voyageur in the opening scene of the first chapter.

BBB: What other books have you written?

ML: Besides Upon Your Honor, I have written and published 18 other books.  Sixteen were self-published and three were traditionally published.  Some of my recent book titles are Upon Your HonorMagick & Moonlight, Leather and Lace, and Upon Your Return.  You can find a full list of my pen names and book titles on my Amazon Author page in my bio. http://www.amazon.com/Marie-Lavender/e/B00C10Q94I/

BBB: What are you currently working on?

ML: I am finishing up my final edits on a paranormal romance/urban fantasy manuscript titledSecond Nature.  It is a story about a woman who stumbles into the world of vampires.  She learns a lot about herself in the process.  Here is a little teaser: http://iloveromanceblog.wordpress.com/2014/06/19/teaser-from-second-nature-a-work-in-progress/
