Spotlight: Amber Daulton Visits to Talk About Contemporary Romance Book, MY VALENTINE ADVENTURE!
Today, fellow author Amber Daulton is stopping by to talk about her latest book!
Hello, Amber! Welcome back to the MLB blog! :)
Hello! Thank you for having me here.
My pleasure, of course! So, let me ask a few questions since you're here...
Can you tell us a little about your latest book? When did it come out and where can we get it?
Claire is an animal rights activist who divorced her husband a few years ago. All she cares about is taking care of her ten-year-old daughter and fighting for what she believes in. Parker still mourns the death of his wife and has buried himself in work and raising his children. They meet for a blind date on Valentine’s Day and sparks fly. Neither realized the other person was exactly what they needed to heal and move on from past hurts and regrets.
My Valentine Adventure is a story about love, forgiveness and learning to live again. It came out on February 10th, 2016 from Resplendence Publishing and you can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All Romance Ebooks, and at the publisher’s website.
That's great! Happy new release!
So, what inspired you to write this book? How did you get into writing romance?
I thought of the ‘matching-making kids’ and the ‘blind date on Valentine’s Day’ plot years ago when I was a teenager and stuffed the idea into a folder with dozens of other ideas. I looked through the folder back in August of last year and found my old Valentine story notes on faded, frayed paper. With February not far away, I finally decided to write the story and added the activism plot and the loss of the hero’s wife for more spice and emotion. I believe a story is nothing without tears, heart and identifiable characters.
I read my first romance book at age 12 and started to write soon after. I’ve wanted to do nothing else career-wise since.
Well, I can certainly identify with that! ;)
So, tell us...what, do you feel, sets your book apart from other books in the genre?
Contemporary romance books are a dime a dozen. Boy and girl meet, fight the villain and fall in love. Animal and environmental rights are important issues but not a typical plot device for this genre. Although I’ve never read a romance book about activism, I doubt I’m the only person out there who would like to read about two people falling in love while they try to save endangered animals from abuse and neglect. Throw in some emotional past trauma for the main characters and you’ll need some tissues. But don’t worry. The ending is super sweet.
Nice! And I love animals, so saving them is right up my alley!
Please give us a teaser or two of the book if you can.
Parker didn’t care about Glenn’s speech, not when he needed to find Claire and make sure she was safe. Police sirens wailed in the distance—someone probably called them before the tiger prowled free which is how they arrived so soon—and he finally spotted his wayward date. Claire climbed up on the cab of Glenn’s truck as though for a better vantage point and waved her arms in the air. He forced his way to her, relief flooded through his veins like a drug, and he reached up to help her down.
“Stuff like this doesn’t happen often, Parker. It’s just a crazy night.”
She braced her hands on his shoulders as she slid down the length of his body. People shoved past them in an attempt to flee before the police arrived or to escape a freed tiger out for blood, and Parker tightened his arms around her before she had the chance to fly the coop. Claire gripped the lapels of his jacket with her fists, a strange gleam lit her eyes like blue fire, and she kissed him as though her life depended on it. His head swayed from the fevered onslaught of her lips and her body pressed against his, but he couldn’t savor the moment.
Red and blue lights flashed down the street and headed right toward them.
Let's try another question, okay?
I'm sure readers are curious about your next writing project. Can you tell us what you've got cooking up now or is that a secret?
I have so many projects on the table. I’m thinking about turning My Valentine Adventure into a trilogy, focusing on other characters, but I haven’t decided yet.
My next publication, Timeless Beginnings, will come out this summer with my other publisher. It’s a time travel romance set in the 1960s and a prequel to Timeless Honor, another time travel story but set in eighteenth century England.
Sounds great! We certainly look forward to your next book!
Thanks so much for stopping by to tell us about My Valentine Adventure, Amber!
Thank you so much, Marie, for having me on your blog!
You're welcome! It's always a pleasure!
Readers, you'll just have to pick up a copy of this fascinating Valentine's romance!
Here is the blurb for My Valentine Adventure.
Parker Townsend raised his children alone after he lost his beloved wife to cancer. When his two little hellions placed a ‘Mom Wanted’ ad in the local paper, Parker found himself roped into an unwanted blind date.
Claire Lauer answered the want ad with few expectations and met Parker on Valentine’s Day, a day she hated with a passion. As an animal rights activist and a divorcée, she felt more comfortable with a placard in her hand than in the company of a handsome man with emotional baggage.
After a protest takes a turn for the worse, she seeks shelter in her date’s arms and loses time in his bed. Will Parker and Claire find the courage to lay their fragile hearts on the chopping block by morning, or will they forever live in a world of gray?
*NOTE: My Valentine Adventure is a standalone book with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

About the Author:
Amber Daulton lives her life by that one belief even though she normally isn’t so Zen.
Author of several novellas, she published her first book in 2012 and hopes to publish countless more in the future. As a fan of contemporary, paranormal and historical romance novels alike, she can’t get enough of feisty heroines and alpha heroes. Her mind is a wonderland of adventure, laughter and awesome ways of kicking a guy when he’s down. She probably wouldn’t be too sane without her computer and notebooks. After all, what’s a girl to do when there are people jabbering away in her head and it’s hard to shut them up? Write! Nothing else works.
